Makayla grew up in Evanston, IL, just outside of Chicago, and began dancing before the age of two. At four years old, she joined Gus Giordano Dance School, then in Evanston, where she expanded her training in various styles. She trained at Gus Giordano dance school through the end of high school, joining their Junior Company, that provided her many performance and training opportunities in the Chicagoland area and across the country. Throughout the years she has trained in numerous styles, but has always had a love for jazz and hip hop.

Makayla continued dancing in college at Stanford University, where she graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Product Design Engineering. She was a four-year member of DV8, a hip hop team where she co-choreographed and served on the executive board. She also choreographed step routines for her Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc. performances, providing versatility to her choreographic portfolio.

After graduating in 2024, Makayla moved to Boston to begin her engineering career with Proctor & Gamble Gillette. After making the move to a completely new city, she is so grateful to have found the DanceWorks Boston community where she has already met amazing people, grown as a dancer, and stayed connected to what she's always loved. After dancing in two seasons, she is so excited to make her choreographic debut, a multi-vibe heels piece using songs from two of her favorite R&B artists.
